The short version: we collect your email address for one purpose — to tell you when ESSENT is ready to use. You will receive a short note confirming you have joined, and one email when it opens. We do not sell your address, we do not share it, and we send nothing else. Ask us to delete it and we will, the same day.
Everything below is the detail behind that summary.
ESSENT is designed and operated by Tzu-Cheng Kao, an individual based in Taipei, Taiwan — the data controller for the information described in this notice, for the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation.
There is no company behind this yet. If that changes before launch, this page will be updated to name the entity that takes over as controller.
For anything on this page, write to hi@essent.space. A person reads it.
We collect three things, and only when you give them to us:
That is the complete list. We do not ask for your name. We do not know who you are. We do not buy, enrich, or infer anything about you from any other source, and we do not build a profile of you.
Our host keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period for security and diagnostics. Those logs are not linked to your signup and we do not use them to identify anyone.
To send you two emails. The first confirms you have joined the list. The second tells you when ESSENT is ready to use. We may send one further message if something significant changes about when that will be — a delay worth knowing about, or a decision not to launch.
That is the entire purpose. No newsletter, no marketing sequence, no product tips, no re-engagement campaigns, and nothing you did not ask for.
If you are in the EU or the UK, our lawful basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, given when you submitted the form. Consent is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us, which we treat as a request to delete your address. Withdrawing costs you nothing and we will not ask why.
Three companies handle your address on our behalf. Each is bound by a data processing agreement and may use it only to provide the service described.
The database is hosted in Supabase's Singapore region (ap-southeast-1). Resend and Vercel are United States companies and may process data there. Where those transfers involve personal data from the EEA or the UK, they are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Nobody else. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your email address, and we never will. There is no advertising on this site and no third party receives your details for their own purposes.
We may disclose information if the law genuinely requires it. If that ever happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.
Until we have sent you the launch email and you have had a reasonable chance to act on it, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first. If ESSENT never launches, we delete the list and tell you we have done so.
The protections here are modest because the data is modest, but they are real and worth stating plainly.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever affects your address, we will tell you and the relevant authority without delay, and we will tell you what we got wrong.
Write to hi@essent.space and we will act on any of these, without asking you to justify the request:
We aim to respond within a few days, and within one month at the outside, as GDPR requires. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We would rather you told us first, but that right is yours regardless.
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or trackers of any kind. Nothing follows you here, and nothing follows you away.
That is a deliberate engineering decision, not an oversight: the analytics used elsewhere in our product are scoped so they cannot load on these pages. It is also why you were not asked to dismiss a cookie banner — there is nothing to consent to. Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no click tracking, so we do not know whether you opened them.
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect the details of anyone under 16. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, write to us and we will remove the entry.
This notice covers this website only. When the ESSENT app launches it will carry its own privacy policy, covering what you record inside it — which is far more personal than an email address and deserves its own document rather than a clause added here.
That policy will say what this one does: your record is yours, we do not sell it, and no employer will ever see it.
If we change this notice we will update the effective date below. If a change materially affects how we use your address, we will email you before it takes effect — we have your address for exactly one purpose, and quietly broadening that purpose would defeat the point.
